Phylagen is building a data platform by digitizing the DNA of microbiomes found in a place or on an object and creating a unique, identifiable fingerprint. About the Job
Do you enjoy pushing technology to grow from early stage prototype to polished product? Phylagen is seeking a Process/Automation Engineer to lead our sampling and lab protocol scaling efforts. In this role, you will lead Phylagen’s lab automation and consumable design. While a member of the Genomics team, you will work closely with the commercial and informatics teams to build a system from sample to sequencer which scales with business volume and is flexible to unique customer requests.
Scale Phylagen’s evolving sample collection and lab processes to enable explosive growth of the business
Automate existing and future lab protocols to meet volume demands using lab automation systems
Collaborate with our commercial, informatics, and lab teams to design scalable sampling systems
Work cross-functionally within Phylagen, and with external vendors to identify and/or develop any consumables required for process scaling
Integrate consumables and information tracking systems with lab processes
At least 5 years of hands-on lab automation or systems engineering experience
Deeply familiar with Next Generation Sequencing systems, PCR and molecular biology lab techniques
Experience scaling sequencing as a service
Comfortable managing external vendors and contractors
Experience with consumable design
Ability to have a high-level view of projects while doing hands-on work
BS or higher in relevant science, engineering, or technology field
Proven ability to lead automation projects
Prior experience in an early-stage start-up or rapidly growing environment
